Job
A Mechanical Engineer (Design Manager) is required to support the new site build programme in the UK and worldwide for an end-user data centre company. You will assist by directing contractors and design consultants on site, as well as managing design teams and providing technical design support to both sales and local operations teams, as well as sometimes in other regions.
This is a great opportunity for someone with previous data centre design experience and relevant mechanical qualifications.
This is a London based role, suitable for anyone in South-East England as there is plenty of opportunity to work from home, though site visits will be required.
Accountabilities:
- Supporting local and regional sites in implementing a new site build programme.
- Oversee and influence the on-site design consultants and contractors; assessing all project related design decisions in-line with the company’s best practice guidelines and build programme.
- Produce design briefs, manage design teams, and support the data centre delivery team in implementing the technical solutions for critical infrastructure projects.
- Confirm that Testing & Commissioning processes are being managed as per the company’s requirements, including Factory Acceptance Testing, Site Acceptance Testing, and Integrated System Testing.
- Take time to understand the requirements of customers, building relationships in order to ultimately improve the service that they receive.
- Working in synergy with teams across the business to ensure that all elements are delivering their responsibilities in tandem, resulting in flawless delivery.
Experience and Requirements
- HNC in mechanical engineering and solid experience in a mechanical design role.
- Data Centre design experience within critical facilities management.
- Demonstrate site-based construction and commissioning experience of new build and existing mission critical facilities.
Previous design experience with:
- Switch Gear.
- TXs
- Cooling systems
- Ventilation systems
- Fire systems.
- Other general data centre related equipment.
- Experience of writing feasibility studies, design briefs, policy statements and guidance documents.
